Gold Edition Patch Notes

Office Dating Simulator 2020: Gold Edition is here! That’s a bit of a mouthful, isn’t it? But hopefully it’s a well-received mouthful, along with this god-forsaken year coming to a close. To celebrate (and to make sure the name of the game still makes sense), we decided to pull everything together for this update by the year’s end. And here we are... on the literal last day of 2020.

After submitting our initial version of the game for Ludum Dare 47, we knew we wanted to spend a bit more time with dear old Office Dating Simulator. There were some extra ideas we had in mind, and we wanted to polish the game's veneer to the level of eye-blinding shine we knew it deserved. So, without further ado... here’s everything we’ve added!

The Major Bullet Points

(more detailed patch notes below)

  • Full voice-acting! Each and every coworker has been provided with amazing voice talent. No longer will you have to tire your brain by reading words!
  • Animated character portraits! Characters are now fully animated, bringing an extra level of life to our already-lively cast. Yes, that includes Thint. Take your time. We know it’s a lot to take in.
  • Tons of polish and extra stuff! We’ve refined and added to a lot of aspects of the game, and these changes add up! This includes revamping and improving art assets, adding sound effects, tweaking interactions, fixing bugs, and more!

Full Patch Notes

  • Every line of dialogue in the game has been acted out and given lots of flair. Our incredibly-talented voice actors have done an incredibly-great job here, so please do check them out and lend them some support! Here’s a list of credits so you can further appreciate them:
    • H.R. - Chords
    • Intern - Aubrey Lima
    • Ms. Synthesis - Sappy Serpent
    • Narrator - Thomas Prater
    • Receptionist - Elissa Park
    • Thint - Tamiks
    • Big Nose John - Joshua Edwards
    • Coco's Mom - Sappy Serpent
  • Character portraits have been animated by the amazing loveboxf - send some appreciation his way too!
  • Sound effects have been added when appropriate, such as when the player interacts with a machine or gains a heart with a coworker
  • You can now enable ‘ambience mode’ by pressing M in-game. This turns off the music and allows you to hear the natural sounds of the environment! This (+ some SFX) is brought to you by TeeTaan!
  • You can now view credits for the game by pressing C at the main menu
  • You can now toggle between fullscreen and windowed mode by pressing F in-game
  • Characters will now display icons above their heads when they have a request, or when you gain a heart with them
  • Machines will now emit particles when converting an item and shake when rejecting an item
  • Interactables are now outlined in a specific color to indicate what kind of interaction they are (ie. black for items, blue for machines, and gray for characters). Outlines have also been made thinner visually
  • The positions of some objects in the office have been adjusted to be less awkward to interact with
  • Some lines of dialogue have been edited to be clearer, and interactions have been added for unique circumstances
  • Day-to-day transitions are now accompanied by quippy phrases
  • Text is now centered at the bottom of the screen during route endings
  • Big Nose John’s name does a special thing at one point
  • The game’s version number is listed on the credits screen
  • You should no longer be able to get jammed in walls (fingers crossed), but if something not-so-great happens anyways you can also press the R button to restart the game from the main menu
  • Fixed crashes caused by odd object interactions involving Ms. Synthesis
  • Added a secret interaction nobody is ever going to find

macOS support will be coming soon as well!

If you haven't seen it, we've also put out a small trailer to celebrate Gold Edition's launch, so we'll leave you with that:

We hope you enjoy the game, and thank you for playing!
